In the olden days when the trees were holding the sky, there was a time of glory and peace. The sun was walking silently through the days, since early morning till late evening, touching with its warmth and light every edge of the forest. Tall oaks, evergreen spruces and pines, white stem birches and trembling tremors - all created a magnificent portrait of the forest. And that lasted for many ages.
In the forest there was a living being which look after the order and would help the forest to be born, to come to its end, and to revive once again.
This collection of short stories was inspired by one of the most famous works of literature THE WAR OF MUSHROOMS, written by Justinas Marcinkevičius, a great Lithuanian writer. The first publication of this poem which is dedicated to preschool age children appeared in 1958. Since then until these days it is one of the most read pieces of children literature in Lithuania. Many generations grew up with this poem, with its colourful characters and a comic, dynamic storyline. Children love this story and find a lot to evoke their individual thinking and imagination.

When it seems that all is lost, armillaria, rassula, amanita, chanterelle and general boletus lift their hats, grab their weapons and rescue the woods. Because they are proud of being fungi.
